There’s a new trend that is hitting the runways these days…mixing stripes with dots in the same outfit! It just can’t be!! In some cases at least the materials share the same colors/schemes so it only looks half bad, but many times the two materials share nothing in common!!!
I remember as a child knowing that if I wore a skirt or shorts that were striped, dotted or plaid, you needed to complete the outfit with a solid color top that matched or went with your bottom items. I remember many of the boys didn’t have the same fashion savvy that I had and their clothing combinations looked atrocious…why didn’t their moms make them go change before they walked out the door? I know…she was preparing them for this day when it was considered “acceptable” to mix dots and stripes together!!!
I remember more than once (probably closer to 100 times), telling my sons (particularly one of them, Darren), not to mix plaid shorts with a striped shirt. I was sure there was something wrong with his vision because he just couldn’t get it right. No, he didn’t have a vision problem, he just didn’t care how he looked. I even had a difficult time allowing them to wear plaid shorts with a t-shirt with a rather large image or words on it! I know I may have been a bit anal about that and I hope I haven’t scarred my sons style sense forever. I’m sure teachers could tell what parent was home when our kids left for school in the morning by just looking at the boys’ outfits

. Now famous designers are purposely creating outfits like this!! OMG! This goes against all the fashion rules I have ever known. How can this be? To me it looks like the designer and seamstress either couldn’t agree on what material to use for the outfit or they miscalculated how much material they would need, came up short and finished the outfit with a remnant from another project!!! If that’s the case, I sure hope they reduced the cost of the outfit since it’s made from scraps!!
Well, I’m a big girl now and can make my own fashion decisions and I’m not following this trend!
When I’m out in public I want people to notice how “put together” my outfit looks rather than think that I have either lost my eyesight or I only had two pieces of clean clothing left to my name! I don’t mind taking a little extra time to make sure that all my items go together and I look presentable. I’m going to be a “rebel with a cause” on this matter, ladies, and I encourage you to do the same.
And as for my son who has struggled with creating matching outfits…he teaches and wears his school uniform shirts daily with jeans, thank goodness!
