Having fun, one ride at a time!

When was the last time you went to the park and went down a slide, a carousel ride at an amusement park, or to Chuck E. Cheese?  I have done all within the last few months with my granddaughters and it’s a wonderful feeling that everyone should experience!

My granddaughters are 4 and 2 years old, and a few months of the year my husband and I venture to their state and stay in the house I spent some of my teenage years, which is only 30 minutes away from the little darlings.  During that time I try to spend as much time with those little girls going to the local parks (I think we’ve been to at least 6) as well as some other family attractions.

One thing I did find out while spending the afternoon with my granddaughters, however, is that some slides are narrower than others and, although I don’t consider myself a big person, my hips were a bit wider than the chute and I got  myself stuck.  Imagine that… stuck at the top of the slide with kids behind me, patiently waiting their turn while the old lady squishes and squeezes my hips to loosen the predicament I got myself in.  With a bit of a nudge and push, I was able to free myself without drawing too much attention to this grandma who was enjoying the park as much as a 4 year old.

Playing structures at parks have definitely changed since I was a kid.  I remember having swings, monkey bars, tall, steel slides, and merry-go-rounds you would push as fast as you could before jumping on it and riding until it slowed down.  Instead of squishy foam or wood chips to cushion an accidental fall, we had dirt..

Carousels can be found in parks, malls and zoos and they aren’t made just for kids.  No, even grandparents can enjoy the constant circular, up-and-down movement of these fun rides.  The big question when approaching the carousel is deciding whether you want to ride on the cheetah, horse, bear or flamingo.  Quite a quandary…

The purpose of this post is to encourage you to have fun with your life and to push your “comfort zone” a bit.  Spend less time and energy wondering if you should/shouldn’t  do something because of your age, and as long as what you want to do isn’t hurtful to others, just do it!!!

Until next time,

Judy
