ripped jeans1I don’t usually follow fashion trends, and if I do, it usually takes me awhile to warm up to the new or repeated fashion idea before I will implement it into my own way of thinking/dressing.  One current  fashion trend that I just can’t wrap my head around is the popularity of buying ripped jeans.

I’m floored by the price of jeans, in the first place.  I have a difficult time understanding why some jeans cost $300, but why would women spend that much money for jeans that look like they are one wash away from taking a trip to “jean heaven”?  I love to people watch when I’m out and about and I can’t help but look, ok stare, at girls and women wearing these thread-bare items that nearly show their “unmentionables”

.   Another trend appears that someone needed a couple 3″x3″ jean patches and decided that your jeans were the perfect jeans to cut from.  The good news about these cut-up jeans is the constant ventilation and cooling that your jeans will offer you and the more holes and rips, the better!  Whether the jeans are worn with dressy flats or heels, the jeans are still ripped, torn and/or cut and look anything but fashionable, as far as I’m concerned.

ripped jeans 3For me, I’m self conscience if my jeans have a tiny snag that my cat made when sitting on my lap.  I feel like all day long I’m trying to cover and disguise the imperfection and am sure that everyone I come in contact with are silently thinking, “Doesn’t Judy look at herself before she leaves the house in the morning?”  There’s just no way that I can go along with this fashion trend due to my own neurosis. I’m sure that wearing ripped and/or torn jeans would drive my blood pressure up into the danger zone as I would constantly be looking to make sure nothing indecent was peeking through.  No thanks, I’ll just sit on the sidelines and watch as this trend fades away.

When I was in high school we had a very strict dress code and holes and rips were not allowed in our pants.  My boyfriend, who later became my husband, had a tiny knee hole in his jeans and he was not allowed to stay at school dressed like that, as it was seen as a distraction.  Mind you, when he left for school that day the hole was not there; it was something that happened during the course of the day.  Things have dramatically changed over the years haven’t they?

Well, I can guarantee you that this is one fashion band wagon that I won’t be riding, no matter how long I wait.  Do you want me to reserve a spot for you?

Have fun shopping.

Until next time,

Judy
