woman on phoneMy hair was too long, the gray was coming in way too fast and I hadn’t found a new hair stylist since my recent move.  What was I to do…? We had moved close to my son and his wife so I asked my daughter-in-law for a reference.  Mind you, I really care a lot for her and we have a very good relationship…up to this point, anyway!!  Boy, without even realizing it, I had put her in a difficult situation!  If I was happy with her referral our relationship would continue to flourish; if not, who knows how this would influence every birthday and Christmas gift I would purchase for her in the future.  And what about grandchildren?  Would I purposely sabotage a hair cut for one of her future kids?  Katie had no idea how much weight was riding on her referral.

Katie quickly responded to my request and referred her own stylist to me

. With much anticipation I made the appointment and to my delight she had an opening in a few days.  Friday rolled around and I was finally going to get a bit of color and get the locks cut…yeah!!  Once I got to the salon (took almost an hour to get there and I was starting to really doubt Katie now) I was welcomed by a very nice stylist who really listened to what I wanted.  Since 1991 I had the same fingers run through my hair every time I got a cut or color besides 3 times during prolonged vacations and I just couldn’t stand my hair!!!

Kristin, my stylist, was very pleasant and personable and she, along with other salon employees, made my experience very enjoyable.  When the cut and color process was complete and the finished product was unveiled, I was extremely pleased.  Kristin listened, heard and got it right!! I looked good!!!

As women our hair oftentimes determines how we feel about ourselves and can greatly influence the confidence we project to others.  Coco Chanel’s quote, “A woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life”, is so true.  Either you feel great about the change and you radiate a glow or you want to wear a bag over your head for the next few weeks until the “mistake” grows out.

A lot was riding on Katie’s referral but she got it right.  I will be making another appointment in six weeks and will gladly drive 40 minutes (there was a much quicker way to go than my way) in order to get my haircut.  And my future relationship with my daughter-in-law, it’s safe for now but I wonder if she can recommend a good gynecologist?
