Move over hunter…. Here comes chartreuse!!
This Monday we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day; a holiday steeped in tradition and legend. Yes, in the 4th century, there was a 16-year old boy named Patrick from the United Kingdom, with very little religious conviction, who was enslaved and sent to Ireland for many years. During this time of despair, Patrick’s spiritual side developed when God spoke to him, and upon his release he became a very devoted Christian who help spread the word for over 30 years as a missionary. Upon his death his work and devotion was recognized and an Irish holiday was named in his honor. It wasn’t until the late 1700’s with the surge of Irish immigrants, that the holiday became part of America’s tradition, and the first St

We also relate shamrocks, pots of gold, rainbows and leprechauns with St. Patrick’s Day. Shamrocks and pots of gold are recognized as good luck, whereas leprechauns are tiny, elf-like beings who are sneaky and play jokes on humans.
Wearing green is also part of the St. Patrick’s Day tradition. As a child, I remember looking in my closet for clothing items of green so I wouldn’t get pinched by my classmates. There are many shades of green; kelly, hunter, forest, mint and seafoam. Over the last couple years there has been a resurgence of “chartreuse”, a color we often relate to the 1960’s. The color is a combination of green and yellow and it definitely is a color that makes a statement. If you are a quiet person, wish to be anonymous or like to “blend in”, this color is not for you! This color shouts confidence and announces, “I’m here!” Personally, I love the color but own only one item of this color…my drinking cup! I’m setting a goal for myself that within the next month I will buy myself a piece of clothing this color. My next goal will be for me to wear this item in public!
Cheers!
Until next time,
Judy
