If you’re familiar with the above mentioned lyrics in Nancy Sinatra’s song made famous during the 1960’s, you’re not too old to be wearing them.   Boots are an essential clothing item this season and can be seen on females of all ages; college students, middle-aged moms and celebrities are wearing these to work, school and play.  Boots come in a variety of styles, lengths and colors.  Buckles, chains, studs, printed, paisley, leather, red, zipped, pull-on, smooth, suede, heeled, flat, tall or short; the variations are endless and there’s a style out there that meets your likes and unique physical characteristics.   Boot prices can start at $30 and can go as high as several hundred dollars, depending on the style, maker or store.

In my own closet, I have two pairs of tall black boots.  One pair is smooth leather and has 1 1/2″ heel and has a sleek. thin cut.  This style looks nice when paired with a knee-length skirt or dress with black tights

. When I was working full-time in winter months, I would love this look as an alternative to wearing pants five days a week.   The combination of tall boots and heavy tights gave me about the same warmth that pants would give me, and I have to admit, that it’s easy to get into a rut of always wearing pants when the temperature starts to drop.

I also own a pair of black riding boots which have a rougher finish, flat heel, side-zip, more chunky looking boot that looks great when worn with leggings or tucked-in jeans.  I purchased these boots at GH Bass factory outlet  during a  fantastic sale before the holidays and were discounted by 60%!  I only spent $75 for these extremely comfortable and versatile boots.  I have to admit that I am extremely critical of myself when wearing jeans tucked inside my jeans, but enjoy and appreciate how others look in this fun, casual look.   Part of this dissatisfaction comes as I’m extremely aware of any excess material that gathers around my knee area just above the boot.   As I people watch others wearing this look I don’t even notice this “fashion flaw”.  On a recent shopping trip I purposely took notice of women wearing the tall boots with tucked-in jeans and saw it on over 50% of women, all ages!  Wow!!  I have experimented with this look and have found that I am most satisfied when I am wearing a skinny, stretch jean, as this creates a smoother, sleeker overall look and there is minimal excess material in the knee area. I will continue to try to perfect this look as it appears that this “fashion look” is here to stay.

I also own a few pairs of short boots or booties that I pair with jeans or pants.  Each pair is a bit different from the other.  One is brown, buckled and a 2″ heel (by Life Stride), one is black, flat heel with a buckle (Liz Claiborne), a black pair, small heel with two decorative zippers (Naturalizer) and my last pair is a 2 1/2″ heel, black suede ankle boot (GH Bass).   Because I have a narrow heel and like my boots on the snug side, I always look for a style with a side zipper.  I’ve found that boots with side zippers are so much easier to get on and off than boots without and they tend to fit my unique foot better.

As I have written in a previous post, after 40+ years, my feet have changed so I have spent many hours shopping for new shoes and boots this past year.  I also have to admit that with each new candle on my birthday cake, the height of my shoe heel decreases.  I have always loved shoes and enjoyed wearing my 3 1/2heels to work on a daily basis for years, but I just can’t stand for eight hours in them anymore!  As a result, the style choices I have now are more limited, whether I’m shopping for boots, shoes or sandals.  Although I may have some restrictions in my shoe requirements, as you can see by the number of boots and booties I own, there certainly is no shortage of she choices at my house.  In fact, I may need to build another closet to house all my shoes!!

So, if you don’t own a pair of boots yet, take a day shopping with the purpose of buying a pair of boots as your goal.  They are fun to wear, look awesome and are a great fashion item to own.

Now if you don’t mind, let me get my boots on and crank up the music…

                                                                        Until next time,
